OUR STORY

From Kolkata memories to Sydney weekends.

I came to Australia in 2004 and, like many people who leave home, I carried a quiet kind of nostalgia with me. I was not just missing food. I was missing the feeling that came with it.

A QUIET KIND OF NOSTALGIA

Small celebrations in the middle of an ordinary day.

I still remember school and college days in Kolkata when a stop at Kusum Rolls or Nizam’s felt like a small celebration. Trips to New Market with my mum often ended with lunch. Sometimes it was a kati roll, sometimes phuchka or papdi chaat. It always felt like comfort and joy in the same moment.

My love for chaat comes from my mum. She brought those flavours home with such care and taught me that food is not only about taste. It is about how it makes people feel.

A KITCHEN MADE FOR FRIENDS

Sharing the flavours that stayed with me.

Kati & Friends started as a small home kitchen to share the flavours I grew up with in a way that felt honest, homely and thoughtfully made. I was lucky to begin with a dear friend, whose support and passion taught me so much.

Some recipes stay close to the flavours I grew up with. Others are newer dishes, made with the same warmth and generosity. Everything is cooked with care, with the hope that it gives you a little moment of comfort too.

BACK TO SOMETHING FAMILIAR

A long-held idea, finally brought to life.

For years, the idea of doing something with food stayed quietly in the background. During a visit to Kolkata in 2023, I spent time learning from cooks, visiting shops and reconnecting with how things were made. Later that year, I finally gave the idea a chance.

I wanted it to feel close to Kolkata, but even better than I remembered.

After almost two decades of not finding a kati roll here that felt quite right, every detail mattered: flaky paratha, properly marinated fillings, balanced spice and vegetables with the right bite. The messages and reviews we receive now tell me that care comes through.

ONE ROLL AT A TIME

Made fresh. Made by hand.
Made with love.

Today I run this little kitchen with gratitude and love. More than anything, I hope my daughter sees that it is possible to follow something you care about, even when it takes time and life does not move in a straight line.

Every order, message and recommendation has helped shape this into something real. From my kitchen to your table, thank you for being part of it.
